Find a verified Insulation Installer in Ireland

Attic, cavity wall, external wall, and pumped insulation with SEAI grant support and BER uplift.

What does a insulation installer do?

Insulation contractors install thermal insulation in homes — attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, internal wall insulation, external wall insulation, and floor insulation. Insulation is the single most cost-effective energy upgrade for most Irish homes, with attic top-ups paying back in 2–4 years. SEAI grants provide funding for several insulation types either standalone or as part of a deep retrofit through a One-Stop-Shop.

Most Irish homes built before 2008 have under-specified insulation by current standards. Attic insulation in 1980s-90s homes is often 100–150mm of fibreglass, vs the 300mm of mineral wool or 200mm of rigid PIR specified today. Cavity walls in homes built 1976–1990 typically have empty cavities; later builds had partial fill that has since slumped. External wall insulation is the most disruptive and expensive but transforms older solid-wall homes. Internal wall insulation is the alternative when external is impractical.

How much does a insulation installer cost in Ireland?

Indicative pricing — your actual quote will vary

Insulation pricing depends on insulation type and home size. The figures below are indicative Irish ranges before SEAI grants are deducted.

Attic insulation top-up to 300mm on a 3-bed semi typically runs €1,200–€2,000. Cavity wall fill on a 3-bed semi is €1,500–€2,800. Internal wall insulation (per wall, mid-room): €1,800–€3,500 per major wall. External wall insulation (whole 3-bed semi exterior): €18,000–€32,000. Floor insulation for suspended timber floor (3-bed semi ground floor): €4,500–€8,500. SEAI grants typically cover 30–50% of cost on standalone work and 50%+ as part of a One-Stop-Shop deep retrofit.

These are indicative ranges based on typical Irish jobs. Final pricing depends on scope, materials, urgency, and the trader you choose. On Jobiit you'll receive itemised quotes (labour, materials, VAT) so there are no surprises.

Insulation Installer FAQs

Where should I start with insulation?

Always attic first — it's the cheapest, most disruptive-free, highest-impact upgrade. A 3-bed semi with poor attic insulation typically loses 25% of its heat through the roof. Top-up to 300mm costs €1,200–€2,000 (often less than €600 after SEAI grant) and pays back in 2–4 years. Cavity walls next if you have them (1976–1990 homes typically empty). External or internal wall insulation is for solid-wall homes (pre-1976) and is bigger investment, much bigger payback.

Can I get an SEAI grant?

Most homeowners qualify for SEAI grants on insulation work. Standalone grants: attic insulation €400–€800, cavity wall €700–€1,700, external wall €4,000–€8,000 (depending on home size). One-Stop-Shop deep retrofits (where insulation is bundled with heat pump and controls) attract larger grants — typically 30–50% of total project cost. Grants are paid to registered contractors, so you get the post-grant price upfront. The home must be built before 2011 for most grants.

External wall insulation — is it worth the cost?

For pre-1976 solid-wall Irish homes, often yes. EWI transforms thermal performance — typical pre-1976 walls have U-value 1.8–2.2 W/m²K vs target of 0.27 W/m²K with EWI. The home becomes meaningfully warmer, heating bills drop 30–50%, and it's the only practical route to Heat Pump readiness for solid-wall homes. The downside is cost (€18,000–€32,000 before grant) and the change to the building's external appearance. EWI is irreversible in practice.

Will cavity wall fill cause damp?

Properly installed by a registered contractor on a suitable wall — no. Older mid-1990s cavity fills did cause issues in exposed coastal locations or homes with pre-existing rain penetration. Modern bonded bead and EPS fills, plus pre-install assessment, prevent this. Reputable installers won't fill walls that show damp risk (heavy weather exposure, cracked render, salt-crystal staining). Always use an SEAI-registered installer with NSAI certification.

How long does insulation last?

Attic insulation: 40+ years in stable conditions. Most fibreglass and mineral wool in lofts is the original product from the build date. Cavity wall insulation: 25+ years. EWI: 30–40 years for the insulation, similar for the render finish. Internal wall insulation: 30+ years. Insulation rarely needs replacement; the cost question is whether to upgrade older thinner insulation to current spec.
